I got my hands on a pair of the 2010 Black Infrared VI's...

This is hands down, my favorite Air Jordan model and colorway of all Air Jordans.

First pair I ever got back in 1991 when I was in 6ht grade...

I wish it had the NIKE AIR on the back, but the black on black thread jumpman logo is cool with me. My 2000's are all brittle on the toe cap, and when I wear them im not comfortable so having another brand new icy Black Infrared VI's i'm really happy.

The Infrared VI Pack is a slam dunk fucking home run for Jordan Brand.

This is the shit that will leave me broke if the keep dropping classic like this.

So the Powder Blue IX's are dropping on Saturday, alot of people are really excited about this release, this is one of my favorite pairs of Jordans so I had to come correct with a dope shirt to match.

The Powder Blues...

It's always nice to see a dope pair of Air Jordans get it's retro cherry popped.

It's been 16 long years since these beautiful sneakers were originally released.

I've wanted a pair of Powder Blue's since I was a freshman in highschool back in 1994.
I think like 7 different people came to school the next day rocking the same out fit.

A crispy pair of Powder Blue's, and the North Carolina Michael Jordan rookie jersey.

And that was the first time they dropped Mike's college jersey.

This was the picture that popped it off...

At the time Mike was retired, just wrapped up the first 3-peat and was playing baseball.

Then Nike dropped this ad and this sneaker really took off, or at least it did where I live down here in Miami.

So it's been a while since I have really dropped a new LIKE MIKE joint and I wanted to come correct for one of my personal favorites.

So I put together this concept based off the track Mya & Jay-z did, the remix of "Best of Me".

Peep the video if you havn't seen it in a while.

Jigga killed the remix with 2 classic punch lines, "Yes y'alln' Jigga man be ballin" & "Carolina Blue Kicks, Hottest Nigga on the Block".

If you remember the next lyric then you will get the concept of the shirt.

I linked up with my homie "9-Teen" to take my concept and lace up the hand drawn version of the image in my head...

So maybe you checked the blog earlier today and saw the post below that says "I'm Back", well ironically 15 years ago to the day was Mike's famous "IM BACK" announcement in 1995...

I swear I didn't plan that.

I was looking around the web for some new content for the blog and to my surprise I found a story about the 15 year anniversary of Mike's famous 2-word press release.

Anyways, check it out:

Michael Jordan is “Back”

In October of 1993 the world’s best basketball player and arguably sports’ biggest celebrity – Michael Jordan - abruptly announced he was retiring from the NBA during the midst of his athletic prime. Theories as to why still range from the simple (he was just tired of playing) to the elaborate (it was a secret suspension for gambling from David Stern).

Regardless of his motives, the story took a historically bizarre twist when, a year later, Jordan signed a minor league deal to play baseball with the Chicago White Sox and was assigned to their Birmingham affiliate to become a traveling sideshow for people who wanted to watch the world’s greatest basketball player hit .202 and strikeout roughly one out of every four times he came to the plate.

It was clear pretty quickly that MJ didn’t quite have the same knack for domination on the diamond as he did the court and on March 18, 1995 he made his return to the NBA official by issuing one of the most succinct press releases in history. It read: “I’m back.”

The next day, Jordan was suited up for the Bulls wearing #45, occasion enough for NBC to break out a Bob Costas soliliquy...

MJ pumped in 19 points in his first game back after close to two years off. Five games into his comeback, he lit up the Knicks for 55 points and over his 17 game regular season he averaged 27 points per game, bumping that up to 31 in the postseason.

Over the next three years, the Bulls and Jordan went 203-43 and won three straight NBA titles.

Safe to say he chose the right sport.

Charlotte Bobcats owner Robert Johnson was once a billionaire but Forbes estimated that his worth fell to only $550 million last year. He's been trying to unload the Bobcats since last summer and minority owner/team president Michael Jordan has always been interested. When Johnson put the team on the block, Jordan apparently negotiated for the right of first refusal. Now Jordan has got to come up with some cash quickly if he wants to do it, according to ESPN.

Former Houston Rockets president and CEO George Postolos has apparently put his second offer on the table (his first one supposedly fell apart last year) and Jordan has till the end of February to match it.

It remains to be seen if the investors who are working with Jordan either have the dollars or inclination to match the offer by Postolos.

Bet Mike wishes he still had that $167 Million bucks from his divorce now.

If Mike doesn’t buy the Charlotte Bobcats, somebody else eventually will. The new owner presumably will bring in executives he knows and trusts, and Michael will be jettisoned. If you engage in hero-worship, you’ll miss Michael. You still brag to friends about the home games at which you saw him, both.

This is the fifth year Michael has run Charlotte’s basketball operation, and the team is by far the best it has been. After a rough start, the Bobcats have won as many games as they’ve lost. They’re unselfish, they’re entertaining and they ought to make the playoffs.

If you’re going to rip Michael for wasting the third pick in the 2006 draft on Adam Morrison then you have to credit him for the roster assembled under his watch.
You have to credit him for hiring Larry Brown to coach and you have to credit him for participating in or at least agreeing to the trades that brought to Charlotte Stephen Jackson and Boris Diaw (and Tyson Chandler).

I don’t know who made the trades. But I can’t fathom Brown or general manager Rod Higgins acquiring a player without their boss’ consent. Michael, then, has not been terrible. Yet he remains a better celebrity than a managing partner of basketball operations.

Wonder how effective he’d be if he worked full-time?

When Jerry West ran the basketball end of the Los Angeles Lakers, he was legendary for going to dank Division II gyms and scouting players from courtside in a folding metal chair.

Even if Michael deigned to show up, I can’t see him sitting in anything less than a three-position recliner with a cherry finish and a deep tufted back. Michael’s lifestyle probably doesn’t lend itself to commitment. If you can play any golf course anywhere anytime you want, are invited to every major event, party and opening, and are treated as if you’re the best basketball player in the world still, you probably wouldn’t spend your time in a Division II gym. And you might not spend much of it in Charlotte.

But you can’t live that life and effectively run an NBA franchise. You can’t do basketball between rounds of golf, hands of blackjack and out-of-town appearances on “The Jay Leno Show.”

Despite all the lovely distractions, Michael’s team still can make the playoffs. But what comes after that? How many hours do the gentlemen who run the teams that plan to win everything put in?

As a player Michael did his best work when the game was winding down and the clock was running low. If the offer from longtime Bobcats suitor George Postolos, the former president of the Houston Rockets, is legitimate, that time is approaching.

Bob Johnson undoubtedly would prefer to sell to Michael, who owns a piece of the team.

How hard is Michael willing to work to acquire it?

Here’s the issue: Since Michael stopped playing ball, he hasn’t had to make anybody happy. People make him happy. They serve him.

Yet to succeed in any business, whether it’s running a restaurant or running an NBA team, you have to be willing to serve.

Lets see what happens.

The Cleveland Cavaliers superstar and McDonald's have agreed to a multi-year endorsement deal. Financial terms of the contract aren't currently known, but James has already filmed his first ad with the company.

It's a remake of the classic "The Showdown" commercial, and it will air before the Super Bowl.

I'm in love...

I don't know how some of you Jordan Heads feel about the vintage treatment Jordan Brand added to the upcoming AJKO release but I love it.

It's actually like exactly what I want, a very vintage looking pair of air jordan I's, but the comfort of a brand new sneaker. ( and a few hundred dollars cheaper! )

I personally love the stained mid soles and oxidized soles, its dope, I dont know how JB did it but they did a really really good job.

I remember when Nike dropped the Jordan Pack dunks, everyone was hating ont he piss yellow mid soles, everyone except for me! I loved it, that what made me want them even more. I hope that Jordan Heads can appreciate how dope of a sneaker this is.

Its releases like this that allow me to forgive JB for all the crap they drop!

I kind of feel bad for all the hood spots that gotta sell these... I can see it now...

This was a vintage North Carolina vs. Maryland matchup...

Len Bias had a great first half scoring 16 points. Finished with 24pts and 4rbs.

Jordan scored 21 and he was a monster on the boards with 12 rebounds. He also had 2 blocks and 4 steals.

He came up with all the big points, rebounds and the steal at the end of the game.

And of course, he has his famous windmill dunk at the buzzer.

Earlier this week the Air Jordan 2010 was officially unveiled at a media summit in Miami, but just a few minutes ago, Dwyane Wade gave the world a preview via twitter at his own version of the Air Jordan 2010 in an all black colorup with his name stamped instead of Jordan.

Different from how Carmelo Anthony and Chris Paul have represented the brand, Michael Jordan announced that he is officially “passing the torch” to Dwyane Wade. Wade spent six years with Converse, but after years of asking to join Team Jordan, he is not only on the squad, but is the captain.

In September of '08 I posted a story about ex-NBA player named LaBradford Smith...

In short the story was about how Jordan was guarding Smith and he managed to drop 37 points on Mike.

Jordan made up some story about how Smith was trash talking after the game just to motivtate himself and his teammates to return the favor when the two teams played again later that week.

Mike dropped 36 in the first half and had 47 by the end of the 3rd, Mike sat out the 4th and the Bulls won by 25.

The reason I bring all of this up again is due to a crazy comment left on the blog over the weekend by one of Smiths angry ex-girlfriends on the original post.

Has anyone ever heard of a former Washington Bullets player named LaBradford Smith?

Well enjoy this story involving Jordan and Smith which is both hilarious and illustrative of the almost fanatical will to win from Jordan.

During the 1993 season, the Bulls were playing against the Bullets and Mike was guarding a little known player named LaBradford Smith. This young upstart managed to drop 37 on Jordan and one could easily assume that His Airness was taking a night off defensively because he was a monster at stopping opposing players. Or, maybe Smith was just greater than Jordan, depends how you want to look at it.

The game is close and the Bulls won, but Jordan is furious that Smith had the temerity to embarrass the greatest like that. Even the win wasn’t enough to appease Jordan’s fury, and by a quirk of the scheduling the two teams would meet again the next night!

After the game MJ vowed to teammates that he was going to get back all 37 points Smith dropped on him by the first half!

Adding a further flapping red cape in front of the angry Bull, Jordan claimed that Smith also taunted him after his seminal performance with the words: “Nice game, Mike.” Telling all who would listen that LaBradford trashed him.

Everybody believed Jordan, the Bullets and Bulls players, while Smith never denied the fact that he taunted him. The legend grew with Washington players passing on the tale at how LaBradford zinged the greatest basketball player of all time.

So, the scene was set the next night when the two combatants would face each other again and Jordan was almost true to his word – he ‘only’ scored 36 points in the first half, with a jumper rimming out as the second quarter came to an end.

Want to know the best part of this tale? Are you ready for the twist at the end of the story? Jordan made up the fact that Smith had trashed him, in fact Smith never said a word, but MJ needed further inspiration to school LaBradford so told everyone that he was disrespected. Amazing.

Michael Jordan Saves Miami... Again.

Ok, in the last post I said Mike saved Miami, now I know he didn't really save Miami from the riots, but Michael Jordan coming to town back in the late 80's and early 90's was a big deal. MJ coming to Miami really helped get the area around the Miami Arena cleaned up after 3 days of rioting.

Fast forward to 1992 and here's Mike again in Miami in the aftermath of the notorious category 5 Hurricane Andrew.

If your from Miami like I am then you already know how bad that storm was.

The Miami Heat partnered up with the Chicago Bulls and Michael Jordan for a "We Will Rebuild" game to help raise money for the recovery fund for the victims of Hurricane Andrew.

Aside from the brief MJ clip, the video below also highlights Miami Heat rookie Harold Miner aka "Baby Jordan's" first Slam Dunk Championship.

But the best part of this video is a crazy ass playoff game fight between the Heat and Hawks up in Atlanta...

Askins and Edwards both connect with a clean punch to each others face at the 4:01 mark.

The fight over the feet of Michael Jordan’s son is not over...

Last Thursday, Marcus Jordan, the Hall of Fame guard’s younger son, told the media that he’d honor the University of Central Florida’s contract with adidas by wearing all the apparel with adidas logos on it but he would not, however, take the court in the shoes. Citing family pride, Marcus said he would be in Nike’s Air Jordans, named after his father, of course.

Soon after the comments were made, UCF athletic director Keith Tribble told AOL’s Fanhouse that the freshman could make the decision for himself since there had been a previous precedent set with a UCF football player who wore a different brand of shoe due to the fit.

But adidas spokesperson Andrea Corso told CNBC that no compromise had been reached with the school.

“We are in negotiations for a future relationship regarding the broader UCF athletic program,” Corso said. “What I can say is that these relationships are based upon agreed deliverables for both parties.”

Translation: The story that adidas had buckled on this one might be what UCF is saying, but it’s certainly not what adidas is saying. adidas officials won’t talk contract specifics, but it appears as though adidas might have the right to change the terms if they don’t get what they were promised.

While some might think this is all about Nike vs. adidas, it seems like it’s more about potential breach of contract. And although it’s bigger than Marcus Jordan, Jordan’s shoe defection is very public and could potentially be costly to the university.

We’re wondering in the coming days if Tribble is willing to take say, tens of thousands of dollars (maybe even hundreds of thousands) less on the shoe deal, to allow Jordan to wear his father’s shoes.

The Jordan brand doesn’t make softball uniforms like adidas does, but maybe Tribble is counting on the original MJ to bridge the gap in donations.

That is the best Air Jordan realated news I have heard in a long time.

No bullshit, I've wanted a pair of White Infrared's since I was in elementary school.

I remember one of my close friends got a pair. I was so damn jealous. I used to STARE at his feet.

At that time I'd never had a pair of Air Jordans yet, and honestly, I never thought I would.

Back in them days a pair of Air Jordans were very very hard to come by. Not to many kids I knew got sneakers that cost over $100, that was some serious money for a little kid 20 years ago. I had to fight with my mom for years about them wack ass sneakers she would buy me. I had to fight my way up the sneaker ladder from bo-bo ass payless shoes to a sneaker with a name some people actually heard of.

My first name brand sneakers: British Knights! Yeaa the fucking BK's, Burger Kings, Butt Kickers.

You know that little gold diamond on the side was fresh...

Yea right! Then you seen your friend walk by with the Nikes that had them visiable air bubbles and you were like damn, these sneakers Im wearing suck.

Remember when you thought you could jump higher with them air bubbles? Damn I used to actually day dream about Nikes. I just used to image that you had like a fucking pogo stick under your feet with the air bubbles...

Anyways, I finally moved up to a pair of Nikes and I eventually got my first pair of Air Jordans, the Black VI's, found them on sale in some sporting goods store on vacation to the west coast of florida, to this day they are my favorite Air Jordans, Maybe it was Little Richard and his magic lamp that granted me the wish?

I wore them sneakers until they had holes in the front and the back...

But the White Infrared VI's have been that shoe I always wanted and thought it would never happen. Jordan brand has gave us the VI's in ever color way you can think of but not the Infrared. I never thought they would actually retro it. Well if JB blesses us with this sneaker next year I will be first in line with my $150 bucks. I've only been saving it for 20 years!

The thread that ties Craig Ehlo and Bryon Russell together is one that's based on Michael Jordan burying a game-winning shot against them.

From one victim to another, Ehlo advised Russell to stay quiet about wanting to challenge Jordan after he called him out in his Hall of Fame induction speech.

"I would tell Bryon, 'Just let it go,' " Ehlo told FanHouse. "It happened, and it's a great memory. But you don't want him to go out and embarrass you, and let it happen twice."

Jordan's jumper over Ehlo in Game 5 of the 1989 first-round series between the Chicago Bulls and Cleveland Cavaliers clinched the series.

His jumper against Russell in Game 6 of the 1998 NBA Finals featuring the Chicago Bulls and Utah Jazz secured Chicago's sixth title.

As for Ehlo, he wasn't offended Jordan didn't refer to him in the Hall of Fame speech.

"He doesn't need to mention me," Ehlo said. "That shot holds its own water. It's been on a Gatorade commercial and on ESPN Classic. He doesn't need to mention it anymore."

Spike directs students to "Do The Right Thing"

Acclaimed screenwriter, director, actor and poet Spike Lee offered advice about life and career decisions to a standing room only crowd at the Cox Auditorium at UT Monday night. The event was hosted by the Black Cultural Programming Committee, the UT Film Committee and Minority Student Affairs.

Shelton Jackson "Spike" Lee, known for ground-breaking films and documentaries like Malcolm X and When the Levees Broke, directed the crowd of students and general public to do something with themselves. He emphasized the importance that his education played in his life, and encouraged students to keep their grades up and always do the right thing.

Lee spoke about growing up in a Brooklyn neighborhood where film-making was not the most well-accepted trade to follow. He studied at Morehouse College and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Mass Communication.

Lee placed great emphasis on the idea of finding one's passion in life.

"I was very lucky because I found out before it was too late what I love," he said. "I repeat - I found out what it is I love."

"When you do what you love, it's not work. Work is going to a job you hate," he added.

Speaking mostly to the students in the crowd, Lee continued his lecture by telling students to think of the future, graduation and job-searching everyday. Lee said decisions made during college can often have future ramifications.

With the immense success of his Hollywood film career, Lee gave insight into his film making decisions. He said that for his film career, he was inspired to go out into the country to represent the diversity of the African-American spirit.

"I didn't become a filmmaker to become famous," he said. "I didn't become a filmmaker to be wealthy. I became a filmmaker because I love filmmaking."

Lee also commented on the idea that media and reality type shows have given young people the wrong idea about how life really operates. Reality shows, he said, teach people that laziness will result in a quick buck with no work involved.

"I don't care what you want to do," Lee said. "You have to work."

Staying vigilant and strong was a continuous undercurrent in Lee's lecture, and he further admonished that college is the time when a person must take some initiative in life, maybe for the first time.

Lee concluded with the thought that there are always repercussions to the choices that people make, which is a main idea in his films.

The HOF Speech: That's Mike

Who knew that a man who hardly said anything controversial in 25 years in public life could cause such a buzz in his Hall of Fame induction speech? But Michael Jordan's remarks Friday night in Springfield at the Basketball Hall of Fame have stirred quite a debate.

There are essentially two camps: those who think Jordan's comments were a candid, funny, raw, refreshing and perfectly representative of the ruthlessness with which he played; and those who think one's Hall of Fame induction speech should be much more deferential, gracious and appropriate than Jordan's was.

Someone took the opportunity to criticize Jordan as a "competitive sociopath."

My reaction was to be surprised at the reaction of people who were so stunned. What did they think separated Jordan from merely great athletes? Almost certainly it was the controlled rage with which he played every single night of his life and probably 90 percent of the practices in which he participated. A less ruthless Jordan would have been, well, Clyde Drexler...

If it sounds as if I'm praising Jordan for this trait, I am. It's as much who he is as the wagging tongue. I covered most of Michael Jordan's career, from the NCAA title game in 1982 when he and the Tar Heels beat Georgetown to his two years with the Washington Wizards, which he didn't even refer to during HOF weekend (no surprise there either). Starting in about 1994 I had more access to Jordan than most reporters, and by 1997 it simply evolved that we became friends. But I always knew that everything, to Jordan, was a slight and he never forgot anything.

Quick story: In the early 1990s when Alonzo Mourning was on a tear and evolving from good young player to NBA All-Star, my sports editor George Solomon told me to follow Mourning for a few days and write about him, seeing as there is always interest reader interest in a Georgetown alum who was becoming a star. I went to Chicago for the first stop because it was always great to measure an up-and-coming player against the reigning champion Chicago Bulls and because I could sneak home for a minute and see family in Chicago -- and I could see Jordan play, which was always like going to the theatre.

Anyway, I went to the Bulls locker room, chatted with Jordan for a few minutes, asking him during that time about Mourning and what he thought of his development. It dawned on Jordan I had come "home" (his and mine) to write about Mourning, not the Bulls, not MJ. And Jordan took great delight, beginning in 1982, in beating Georgetown players. He never let Patrick Ewing forget who won that NCAA championship game. But this was something Jordan could use on some non-descript night to get into his pre-game rage.

"So you came home to write about one of your Georgetown boys?" Jordan said, becoming annoyed. "You didn't come to see me; you came to see that Georgetown kid? Suppose he doesn't score tonight? What you gonna write in The Washington Post then?"
Jordan was full-on by then and I'd seen this enough to know to pretty much shut up -- though I did say, "What do you mean, 'suppose he doesn't score?' "
Jordan said, "What don't you understand about, 'he ain't gonna score'?" I felt bad that Mourning was going to pay for this slight more than me.

Keep in mind Mourning was averaging about 20 points per game and Jordan, a guard, wouldn't be the guy guarding him ... not exactly.
I wish I could remember the exact game and find the box score, but I recall that when Jordan left the game the Bulls had a huge lead and Morning had three points. The Bulls defense had smothered Mourning, and Jordan had a couple of those swoop-in strips on double-teams Mourning never knew were coming.

In the locker room afterward, Jordan called me over and said quietly, "Listen, don't be rough on Mourning in your story. ... He's going to be a great player. ...His left hand isn't there yet though. He can't go left. I knew we'd overplay him and not let him go right and he couldn't really score on our defense. ...But don't go crazy criticizing him; he'll figure it out ...okay?"
Yep, got it.

There were times Jordan would talk to me at the Berto Center where the Bulls practiced. More than once we sat in the complete dark while he put his shoes on because the lights of the gym hadn't been turned on yet.

One morning we talked just about Dean Smith, Phil Jackson and Jordan's own father, James, who had been murdered. We'd lost our fathers at about the same point in life (me at 27 him at 30), though for very different reasons. Proving ourselves to our fathers was central to both of us. So no, not everything was trash talking or making a competitive point. I was trying to remember over the weekend if I ever heard anybody get the best of Jordan in a verbal exchange, and I came up with one example, just one.

At dinner one night in Washington when Jordan was running the Wizards -- so this was the 2000 season, I'm guessing -- one of Jordan's older brothers, Larry (a damn good player himself at one time), was on the wrong end of some needling from Michael.

Larry's probably, oh, 5-foot-8 or 5-9, though MJ always calls him "5-4, 5-5" as he did during his induction speech.
Anyway, Larry waited politely until his younger brother finished a rant and said, "Michael, if you hadn't had that growth spurt., your ass would have wound up working at Pep Boys."

The laughter seemed to last forever. And nobody at the table laughed harder than Michael Jordan.

Seeing Mike get inducted into the Hall of Fame really puts life into perspective for me, I turned 30 years old a few months ago and I have been a Jordan fan since the late 80's...

I literally grew up on Michael Jordan.

Mike has been a part of my life ever since I was a little kid in elementary school, and to see his Basketball career officially end tonight really makes me feel like an old man...

Sometimes I wish I could go back and just re-live the whole ride.
